ACTION FOR ALZHEIMER’S

How Your Donation of Operating Audio Equipment Helps Area Alzheimer’s Association

Action For Alzheimer's(Cleveland, Ohio) A trip to the beach with friends, that special family vacation in the mountains, your child’s first Christmas. All treasured memories that make us smile each time we think of them. What would happen to that smile if all of these important memories of your life were taken away?

Alzheimer’s disease steals the many life memories and more from the nearly 5 million Americans, including over 40 thousand here in northeastern Ohio, with the disease. Audio Craft works with the Cleveland Alzheimer’s Association to make a difference in the lives of people with Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive, degenerative disease that attacks the brain and results in impaired memory, thinking, and behavior. People with Alzheimer’s experience confusion, personality and behavior changes, impaired daily living skills, finding words, and even an inability to finish thoughts.

For many years now, Audio Craft, a Cleveland owned and operated AudioVideo Integrator, has been able to provide support to the Alzheimer’s Association through this “home-grown” program known as “Action for Alzheimer’s”. Not only does Audio Craft actively participate in the annual Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s through a corporately sponsored team soliciting contributions from various vendor partners, but Wayne Puntel, owner of Audio Craft recalls the early days of the program he created.

“People in the Cleveland area made such an impact when we first started this program. What started with repurposing operating – older technologies to a few area care centers quickly grew into a movement of sorts… I smile when I think that we were way ahead of today’s popular “Recycling Programs”, Puntel explained. “As the world of compact discs (CD) moved into the main stream, many an album collection and turn table systems were set aside. Donated equipment was assembled and shared with music therapy programs in area nursing and day care facilities.” Donations of operating equipment continue to be made. Audio Craft resells the donated equipment through their outlet center – with 100% of the proceeds going to support the Alzheimer’s chapter. “The program eventually caught the attention of like minded companies from our industry, prompting several to begin their own local programs across the United States and even into Canada” offered Puntel.

The Alzheimer’s Association – Cleveland Area Chapter provides a wide variety of services to individuals, families, and support organizations that include networking, family support groups, and educational resources for those touched by this disease.

Operating equipment donations may be brought into Audio Craft’s Design Showroom & Outlet Center at 3915 Carnegie Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio.
